The apartment is located in a building in via Frattina, a street of the area called the Trident in the center of Rome. The building dates back to the XVIth century but the last internal works were made at the end of the XIX century. In that particular period a decorative style called orientalism was in fashion. In this flat we discovered some very nice frescoes on one of the ceilings. We started from its co lours to chose our palette and made the rest of our choices starting from this, like leaving the original doors and paint them in a nice grey shade. The colours are soft and enhance the old ones. We also had to bring brightness and a modern flair to the flat. The interior divisions were minimized to create open and welcoming spaces. In contrast, the long distribution corridor has been entirely covered with a William Morris wallpaper with a very dense and sinuous pattern . The custom-made furnishings blend in with the wall colour, while a few se lected pieces purchased during some trips around Europe by the owners characterize the space. Even the furnishings and lighting fixtures have a hint of orientalism or rigor in their design. In the living room , the biggest wall is covered with a very subtle wallpaper by Neisha Crosland, the sophisticated british designer with a passion for oriental design. The intention was to create a contemporary dialogue between Nisha’s minute motif in gold and antique rose, almost a pictorial effect, and the figures of the restored fresco. As a final touch we thought of a wonderful tone of intense orange to welcome guests and already announce the roman/orientalism/relaxed design mix that we wanted to create.
